Abbotsford – Flea markets used to be a Sunday tradition. Head for a location to find those treasures that someone else may call trash or just not loved anymore.
COVID punched the steam out of many of these markets along with services like Facebook marketplace. The Chilliwack Market at the Princess Armories faded into memory last year.
The Abbotsford Flea Market, a staple on the Exhibition grounds for 47 years, has closed forever.
They have been shut down for a few weeks, and now cryptic notes plus public thank you have been posted to their Facebook page.
From February 13 on Facebook: The Abbotsford Flea Market is a family business that has been in the community for 47 years. The Market was thriving until March 15, 2020 for the first time in the history we were closed due to the pandemic. 4 years later, we are still struggling to bring the Market back to pre-pandemic. During this time we have lost a lot of vendors and shoppers. We , the owners of The Abbotsford Flea Market have been trying to look in to other options and decide the future of our business.
From March 7 on Facebook: The Abbotsford Flea Market will be closed permanently. This closure seems very sudden, but, it has been something we have fought with for quite some time. The Flea Market has been a second family to us for years.. it was started by our family over 45 years ago. This is very hard for us. We will miss all of you. We wish you all the best and look forward to our new chapter in life. Thank you for all your support and friendships over the years!
