Rosedale/Bridal Veil – From the media release on February 26, Cheam First Nation announced the acquisition of Bridal Veil Golf Course, marking a significant milestone in the expansion of Cheam’s land base. This strategic move reflects Cheam’s commitment to fostering economic growth while preserving and promoting Indigenous cultural heritage.
In conversation with FVN, their media stressed that this is not connected with the gondola proposal (which is slowly moving through the permit process with various government agencies).
These newly acquired lands will play a pivotal role in creating awareness of Cheam and Sto:lo history and culture. Cheam wants to showcase the natural beauty of the region while sharing the rich tapestry of Indigenous traditions.
Chief Darwin Douglas expressed enthusiasm about this endeavor, stating, “Our focus is not only on economic prosperity but also on safeguarding our land and heritage. This acquisition allows us to create intergenerational wealth for Cheam people and future generations, ensuring a sustainable and culturally vibrant legacy.”
The golf course was closed down by the previous owners. More information is expected in the weeks and months to come.
