Fraser Valley – Brad Vis, Member of Parliament for Mission—Matsqui—Fraser Canyon and Conservative Shadow Minister for Small Business Recovery and Growth, issued the following statement.
“Fruit and vegetable farmers in my riding are struggling. I hear day in and day out from farmers
who can’t keep up with rising input costs and repeated tax hikes from the provincial and federal
governments. Farmers have made a very clear ask of the federal NDP-Liberal government: pass
Conservative Bill C-234 in its original form to provide a full carbon tax exemption to farmers;
pass Conservative Bill C-280 to protect farmers from bankruptcy and insolvency; and to
establish a Grocery Industry Code of Conduct.”
“Frustratingly, Liberal-appointed Senators gutted Bill C-234 in the upper chamber.
Conservatives have tabled an amendment that would restore Bill C-234 to its original form, and I
call on all Members of Parliament to join me in supporting it to lower food prices. I also call on
the Senate to swiftly pass Bill C-280 without delay.”
“Our farmers provide Canadians with fresh, local produce of the highest quality, but they simply
cannot keep up with the current costs, which in turn impacts the grocery budgets of families.”
“I am committed to fighting for our farmers in Mission—Matsqui—Fraser Canyon and across
Canada who work hard every day to put food on our tables at a reasonable price.”
