Brian VanGarderen To Run For Chilliwack School Trustee in October

Chilliwack – In a soft campaign lunch on Saturday night, Brian VanGarderen announced he will make another bid for Chilliwack School Trustee.

Last spring in the by-election, he did not fare well, although his voice seemed lost in the polarized vote between Dr. Carin Bondar and Richard Procee.

While his family resides on Chilliwack, he teaches in Abbotsford.

VanGarderen is expected to make a further comment in the coming days on chillTV’s News of the Week.

From his Facebook campaign page – Brian VanGarderen:

Im announcing my candidacy for the upcoming Chilliwack School Trustee election on Oct 15 2022. I look forward to meeting, learning and hearing from many of you in the community. I’m excited to share my knowledge and expertise as a teacher, to help strengthen our community values through education and leadership.

Many of you may not know this about me, but I am also the Head Coach for the Abbotsford Whalers swim team who just finished up the season with provincials in Kamloops this past weekend. Despite the long hot days, our team did amazingly well and I am so proud of them. Now I’m looking forward to my next challenge – running for Chilliwack School Trustee!

That being said, I would like to share a little bit about me and and my experiences that I believe make me a great candidate for school trustee.

I have been working as a teacher since 2015 working with students with exceptionalities in the school for the Deaf in Edmonton Alberta. In 2017 I moved back to Chilliwack and got a job working as a learning support teacher in Abbotsford. From there I have been working for the past four years as a teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in the Abbotsford school district. I have had the pleasure of working with multiple groups including teachers, support staff, administrators, and parents that are all involved in a child’s education, which allows me a unique perspective into the multi faceted levels behind every child’s education. I believe that every group that is involved in the education system has an important role and perspective that needs to be heard and valued in our community. In 2020, my wife and I had our first child, Victoria who has been a big motivator for me. I would be thrilled with the opportunity to continue building and improving our school system for her and all children’s future school experiences.

My platform this year is based on three major areas.

The first is Equity in Education.

Secondly, I believe in Inclusion for our students in the district.

Lastly, I believe Clear Communication with all parties involved in a child’s education is vital.

Keep watching in the coming days as I expand on each of these points and why they are critical to the success for all of our students!

If you have any comments, questions or would like to donate to my campaign, please free free to comment, send me a message or email me at BrianVforTrustee@gmail.com. I’d love to hear your thoughts!
