Abbotsford, BC – On the evening of August 7, 1999, a 37-year-old woman was sexually assaulted, choked and threatened with death by an unknown male while walking to her car after leaving a large outdoor party in the 37200 block of Ward Road.
An APD investigation was initiated and some evidence was gathered in relation to this disturbing stranger-based sexual assault. Unfortunately, the case remained unsolved until December 2013 when an APD Major Crime Unit sent previously seized clothing exhibits for DNA analysis. In early 2014, a DNA profile was discovered and a suspect was identified.
On December 17, 2015, that suspect, James Allen REDDEN was charged with Sexual Assault, Unlawful Confinement and Uttering Threats. REDDEN is a 48 year old man who was living on Vancouver Island.
The Abbotsford Police Department would like to recognize the extraordinary bravery of the victim of these crimes. It was through her strength and the perseverance of our investigators that this important arrest was made.
