Logging Truck Driver Missing Near Hope After Washout

Hope BC (Global) – Search and rescue crews are currently waiting for the green light from geologists to begin looking for a 61-year-old truck driver in the mountains north of Hope.

The driver’s logging truck is believed to have been washed off a forest service road during Tuesday’s storm.

The wreckage of the truck has been found more than 200 metres below the road in a ravine, but so far, the man’s body has not been recovered.

“We received a call at approximately 11:30 [Tuesday] morning about an incident that happened up here on Nickel Mine Road area, just north of Hope, B.C. There was an indication of a logging truck that was caught up in a slide that had occurred and the logging truck went over the side,” said S/Sgt. Karol Rehdner with Hope RCMP, adding that the truck was being loaded at the time of the incident.

“At this point in time we have one unaccounted for individual and thus we are out in the area to conduct a search in an attempt to locate this individual.”
Rehdner said the area was heavily saturated with high winds.

The rescue crews are waiting for geologists to declare the area stable enough to allow them to head down the ravine to look for the driver.
