Chilliwack – Just after 1:20 PM Saturday afternoon, multiple pages for Chilliwack Fire rang out for a fully engulfed one storey house just off Downtown Chilliwack. The fire near Wellington and Robson lit up social media and downtown was filled with the smell of smoke.
40 Firefighters responded from Halls 1, 2, 4 and 6. On arrival fire crews reported heavy smoke coming out of the roof of a two-story residential home.
The fire was well established within the interior of the home, so fire crews had to fight the fire from the outside of the structure. The interior of the home sustained major damage and the interior of the roof system was heavily damaged in the fire. The lone resident was not home at the time of the fire.
No one was hurt.
The cause of the fire appears to be accidental and is still under investigation by the Chilliwack Fire Department.
