Chilliwack Summer Watering Restrictions Start June 1

Chilliwack – On an average day, Chilliwack uses 28 million litres of water. But in the summer, we use up to 52 million litres of water per day!

Lawn watering uses approximately 30% of the summer water consumption.  Most lawns only require 2.5 cm (1 inch) of water per week.  Water your lawn in the morning to minimize the amount of water lost to evaporation.

Add to that, this year’s snow pack is 70% to 80% of normal. The freshet won’t be as severe as past years. Thankfully mosquitoes will be manageable and tolerable. However, many experts are prediction a long , hot , dry summer. Annual watering restrictions for Chilliwack kick in Saturday June 1. As of now, it won’t be anything too severe, but don’t be surprised if you will see plenty of brown grass around town as restrictions increase.

According to the City of Chilliwack website:

Sprinkling of lawns at times other than those listed below is prohibited.

Violations can be reported to the Engineering Department at 604-793-2907.
