Chilliwack – RCMP drug trafficking investigations in February 2019 led to the seizure of illegal drugs, firearms and the arrests of 5 individuals by police.
In response to reports received in early February 2019 by the RCMP of illegal drug activity the Chilliwack Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) officers gathered evidence during three separate investigations across the city.
The investigations led to the arrest of a 30 year-old-man from Chilliwack during a traffic stop on February 12th prior to the execution of a Controlled Drug and Substance (CDSA) search warrant of an apartment in the 45000-block of McIntosh Drive that evening. The suspect was later released by police.
Drugs police believe to be crack cocaine, cocaine, shatter, and cannabis resin, cash, cell phones and a vehicle were seized during the arrest of the suspect while a large amount of alleged crack cocaine, cannabis resin, paraphernalia associated to drug trafficking and a SKS rifle were seized by officers during the execution of the search warrant.
On February 22, 2019 evidence collected during a second investigation directed police to the 46000-block of Gore Avenue where CRU officers supported by the Chilliwack Prolific Offender Priority Team (POST) executed a CDSA search warrant of a residence. Three people were arrested during the execution of the search warrant with two individuals remaining in custody on unrelated matters while the third person was released from custody by police.
A large amount of alleged cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, and paraphernalia associated with drug trafficking together with firearms, personal and credit card information, computers, and bicycles linked to property reported stolen to RCMP from across the Upper Fraser Valley were seized by police during the search.
The month closed with the execution of a Cannabis Act search warrant by CRU officers at a residence in the 46000-block of Bridal Ridge Crescent. One person at the scene was arrested and later released by police. Officers seized an alleged 476 marihuana plants and equipment used to cultivate marihuana during the execution of the search warrant.
Following a thorough review by investigators of evidence gathered during the investigations all circumstances of each investigation will be forwarded in reports to the BC Prosecution Service for their assessment of CDSA, Criminal Code, and Cannabis Act charges.
