Chilliwack – A pair of fires kept Chilliwack fire crews busy on Saturday afternoon.
First, @ 12:10pm, the Chilliwack Fire Department was alerted to a report of a structure fire in the 9300 block of Broadway.
Fire crews from Halls 1, 4 and 6 responded to the scene and upon arrival discovered a large volume of smoke venting from a single storey residential structure.
Crews quickly brought the fire under control and were able to limitthe spread of the fire to a single bedroom however the rest of the home received extensive smoke and heat damage.
The four people in the home were alerted to the fire by their two dogs and were able to safely exit the home.
The cause of this fire is under investigation by Chilliwack Fire Department officials.
The home did not appear to have working smoke alarms.
Next, some 8 minutes after arriving on scene at the Broadway fire, crews were alerted to the report of a residential structure fire in the 45000 block of Reece Avenue. When crews arrived on scene they found a minor amount of smoke and flame coming from the exterior of the home near the roof.
That fire was quickly extinguished and damage was limited to a very small area on the exterior of the structure near the electrical service.
No one was hurt in either fire.
