Trans Mountain, Environment Ministry Investigating Leak In Surrey

Surrey -UPDATE – Surrey Fire and Ministry crews have determined that the leak was from a private gas line to a home and not from Trans Mountain.

ORIGINAL STORY – Crews from Trans Mountain (TMX) and B.C.’s Ministry of Environment moved into a Surrey neighbourhood shortly after 1AM Sunday morning in response to an odour complaint and reports of a gasoline-like substance in a ditch near the Trans Mountain pipeline.

Soon after, crews and heavy equipment were working the intersection of Douglas and Kalmar Roads. Ministry crews were cleaning up sheens in a ditch. The odour was not deemed to be a local threat.

Oct. 7 at 2:40 p.m. PT – We have been investigating the odour complaint and are continuing to explore in the area, but at this time we have found no evidence that the source of the product is the pipeline.

Oct. 7 at 9:45 a.m. PT – We have crews and equipment responding to an odour complaint and reports of a gasoline-like substance in a ditch near the Trans Mountain pipeline in Surrey. The pipeline has been shut down as a precautionary measure and we are investigating the source of the product. TMX, the Ministry and the NEB National Energy Board are looking at the situation in a combined effort.
