Chilliwack -OCTOBER 6 UPDATE – IHIT has made an on line plea for anyone with dashcam video of the homicide scene near the IGA on Yale and Menzies. There is where Thursday’s homicide of 27-year-old Kyle Cromarty happened.

OCTOBER 5 UPDATE – IHIT is confirming that 27-year-old Kyle Cromarty of Chilliwack was the victim of homicide.

ORIGINAL STORY – OCTOBER 4 – IHIT was deployed to Chilliwack after a Thursday afternoon shooting near the IGA by Yale Road at Menzies (@2:20PM in the 46000-block Yale Road)
One person has died. Chilliwack Senior Secondary and Chilliwack Middle School were under a lockdown for about an hour.
There are reports of a man in a black hoodie running away from the scene. That has not been confirmed by IHIT.
The area by Yale and Menzies will be blocked off for quite some time as this investigation ramps up.
Chilliwack RCMP said they do not believe the shooting was random. RCMP won’t comment on whether it could be related to another fatal shooting outside Mission’s Junction Mall on Wednesday night.
A Police Chopper was in the air shortly after 4PM.

On October 4, 2018 around 2:20 p.m., Chilliwack RCMP was called to the 46000-block of Yale Road after receiving a report of shots fired. Officers arrived and located a person suffering a life threatening injury. The victim was transported by BC Ambulance to hospital where the victim succumbed to their injury.
The area surrounding the scene will be cordoned off for an undetermined amount of time. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called and will be working in partnership with Chilliwack RCMP.
Police are in the early stages of the investigation and believe this was not a random act.
