Chilliwack – MARCH 6 UPDATE – On March 6, 33 year old Robert Giesbrecht was charged with Assault with a Weapon. He has a history of mental health issues (including schizophrenia) and was released on $2500 bail.
MARCH 4 ORIGINAL STORY – A stabbing overnight in Downtown Chilliwack may or may not be a targeted incident. This happened around midnight Saturday morning in front of the Auld Phillips boutique on Yale at Nowell.
Global is reporting that the victim does have not life threatening injuries. The suspect was found in Abbotsford and charges are pending.
Julie Agar with Auld Phillips says this has been “almost a daily occurrence” in dealing with crime and homelessness and is documenting their calls to RCMP.
Other businesses and community organizations took to social media and expressed concerns that TV crews will have yet another story on crime in Chilliwack.
Coletta Holmes with Chilliwack and District Seniors’ Resources Society posted to Facebook: It’s been a very discouraging week. Every day the police are dealing with issues on my street. Everyday multiple security officers in the parking lot behind my office. Today Global is interviewing and filming downtown which means Chilliwack will make the news again. Big sigh.
