Hope – On Saturday afternoon (September 26, 2026, at approximately 1:28PM), Hope RCMP was notified that a pedestrian had been struck by a train on the railway tracks beneath the Water Avenue overpass. Officers attended the scene, where other emergency responders had already arrived, and located a male pedestrian who sadly did not survive his injuries.
The train remained on scene while investigators assessed the circumstances surrounding the collision. Police learned that the man had been walking along the railway tracks prior to the collision. The investigation remains ongoing in collaboration with the BC Coroners Service and CN Railway.
Police are reminding the public that railway tracks can be extremely dangerous. Trains can approach quickly and quietly, often requiring significant distance to come to a stop.

Remember that trains may operate on any track, at any time, and from either direction.
Never walk, stand, or play on railway tracks.
Only cross tracks at designated crossings.
Stay alert and avoid distractions such as headphones or mobile devices when near railway tracks.
Obey all railway signs, signals, and warning devices.
