Chilliwack/Stolo – The Union of BC Indian Chiefs will be holding their annual general meeting at Shxwhá:y Village Community Cultural Centre (44692-B Skway Rd, Chilliwack)
On the evening of Wednesday September 23, there will be an opportunity for candidates to share what is on their platform regarding relationships with First Nation on and off reserve.
Tyrone McNeil, President and Tribal Chief of Stó:lõ Tribal Council, will be the moderator of the discussions. Candidates would be invited to sit at the front table with microphones available.
The moderator will present topics related to reconciliation and building mutually beneficial working relationships between the City of Chilliwack and local First Nations, including:
– The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
– Section 35 in the Constitution of Canada
– The Cowichan Decision related to fee simple land holders – Economic Development
– Land and Water Restoration in light of climate change
– Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas
– Homelessness and Housing
Candidates will be given an opportunity to respond, followed by four questions from the floor for candidates to respond.

7:30 pm. Candidates present their platforms as they related to Indigenous Relations
