Chilliwack – Chilliwack resident, business owner and longtime
community volunteer Jared Mumford has announced his candidacy for Chilliwack City Council in
the October 17, 2026 municipal election.
Born and raised in Chilliwack, Jared is the current President of the Rotary Club of Chilliwack,
Co-Chair of Chilliwack Healthier Community and former Chair of the Chilliwack School Board.
He is also involved with a number of non-profit organizations throughout the community.
Mumford said his campaign will focus on conservative taxation, long-term infrastructure
planning, thoughtful growth and practical, research-based decision-making at City Hall.
“Chilliwack is growing quickly, and the decisions we make now will shape this community for
decades,” said Mumford. “I believe we can accommodate that growth while protecting what
makes Chilliwack a great place to live. That requires planning ahead, being disciplined with
taxpayers’ money and making decisions based on good information rather than short-term
thinking.”
His years of volunteering with Chilliwack’s vulnerable population have also informed his views
on regional accountability.
Mumford said his experience serving on an often-divided School Board reinforced the
importance of approaching public decisions without ideological assumptions and instead
focusing on evidence, public input and the merits of each issue.
“I’m not interested in governing from the left or the right,” said Mumford. “I’m interested in what
works. Good ideas don’t belong to one side of the political spectrum, and neither should good
local government.”
