Business Owner Doris Woodman-McMillan Announces Bid for Abbotsford City Council

Abbotsford (Media Release) – Long-time Abbotsford business owner and community leader Doris Woodman-McMillan announced that she is running for Abbotsford City Council.

Woodman-McMillan brings nearly 40 years of financial and business experience to the campaign. After beginning her career in banking, insurance, and the Canada Revenue Agency, she founded Numbers Unlimited more than 26 years ago. Since then, she has helped thousands of individuals, families, businesses, and organizations make informed financial decisions and solve complex problems.

Alongside her professional career, Doris has spent decades serving Abbotsford through Rotary, Abbotsford Air Show, the Chamber of Commerce, Community Futures, local schools, churches, sports organizations, and numerous community boards and volunteer initiatives.

She says the decision to run came after years of listening to residents, business owners, and community leaders.

“I’ve spent my career helping people solve problems,” said Woodman-McMillan. “Over the years I’ve heard the same message again and again: people want a City Hall that works for the people who live and do business here—not the bureaucracy. That’s why I’m running.”

Her campaign focuses on five priorities: building a strong local economy, making City Hall more responsive, ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent wisely, supporting safe communities, and investing in the recreation, arts, and community spaces that make Abbotsford a great place to live, work, and play.

“Businesses are partners in building our community,” she said. “They create jobs, support families, and invest in Abbotsford. City Hall should be helping them succeed, not creating unnecessary barriers.”

Woodman-McMillan believes her financial background brings a perspective that is often missing around the Council table.

“A budget isn’t just numbers on a page,” she said. “It’s a reflection of our priorities. We shouldn’t simply assume every line of the budget still makes sense because it was there last year. We should ask questions, review spending carefully, and make sure we’re making the best use of every tax dollar and every funding opportunity available.”

She also believes Abbotsford’s growth should include investments that strengthen community life.

“Arts are a necessity, not a luxury,” she said. “As our city grows, we should create more opportunities for people to enjoy recreation, experience the arts, and gather as a community. We shouldn’t have to leave Abbotsford, or rely on a school gymnasium, to enjoy a great performance.”

Woodman-McMillan’s campaign slogan is Working With You. Getting Things Done.
