Fraser Valley – BC Lions BCFC Players of the Week
Offensive player of the week
Blake Draper / REC / Valley Huskers
8 receptions, 124 yards, 3 TD
The winless Huskers put up a valiant effort before fading in the stretch as they fell 47-23 to the Westshore Rebels Saturday afternoon. As the Huskers run game fails to make any traction opposing teams are able to pin their ears back and concentrate on the pass, making Draper’s accomplishment Saturday that much more impressive. The Huskers veteran receiver was the main target of Huskers QB Noah Falconer and helped to keep his team within striking distance until the late stages of the game.
Red Deer native Blake Draper now has 125 catches in his junior career, good for 13th all time in the BCFC
Defensive player of the week
Beck Fullerton / DB / Okanagan Sun
2 tackles, 2 interceptions, 1 for 72 yard TD
The conferences top defence was in shut down mode Saturday night as they blanked the Kamloops Broncos 31-0. The smothering Sun, defence led by 4th year veteran Beck Fullerton (Vincent Massey Collegiate, Winnipeg) limited the Broncos to 225 yards net offence
Special Teams player of the week
Tiernan Docherty / Kicker / Langley Rams
15 punts 32.5 AVG, 5 kick-offs 53.6 AVG, 2 of 2 FGS (longest 33 YDS), 3 of 3 converts
The Langley Rams dug themselves a big hole in a huge game Saturday in Nanaimo as they fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter against the VI Raiders. Docherty put his team on the board late in the opening frame with a 33 yard field goal to stop the bleeding as his team went on to score 29 unanswered points and move to 4-1 on the season.
This is Docherty’s third special team player of the week award this season
