Abbotsford (Abbotsford Police Department) – Between Friday at 5:00 AM and Monday at 6:00 AM, AbbyPD frontline officers responded to 313 police files, staying actively engaged throughout the weekend.
Friday Night
Officers responded to a variety of calls. One incident involved a shoplifter who pushed a store employee to the ground when confronted about stealing. The suspect was identified, and charges are forthcoming. AbbyPD also assisted Border Patrol with a border runner near Farmer Road and McKenzie Road. The suspect was located by a police dog while attempting to hide, with Air 1 providing support. RCMP Border Patrol took custody of the suspect and the investigation.
Saturday
Day shift officers attended a sudden death within the community, which was determined to be non-suspicious. Three stolen vehicle reports were taken during the day. On the night shift, officers attended a residence where three vehicles had their windows smashed. The investigation is ongoing. Two impaired drivers were also located.
Sunday
Sunday’s day shift was relatively uneventful, though two impaired drivers were stopped by our traffic unit. One driver, a 49-year-old man, provided a breath sample of 150 mg%, nearly twice the legal limit, at 9:18 a.m. Needless to say, he is facing criminal charges. During the evening, officers conducted follow-ups on ongoing investigations while attending routine calls for service. Additionally, another impaired driver was arrested, along with a man wanted on an outstanding warrant.
Ongoing Initiatives:
• Operation Community Shield remains active in response to recent extortion-related incidents. Patrol teams conducted a variety of checks and patrols throughout the community to ensure public safety and visibility.

Proactive Traffic enforcement efforts led to:
8 impaired drivers being removed from the roads, and 40 violation tickets being issued. By the end of the weekend, 6 individuals were held in custody.
