Kent/Agassiz (Desi Naidoo Media Release)- I’m Desi Naidoo, and I am running for District of Kent Council. Having lived in Agassiz since 2014, I am a proud caregiver to my mom, a dedicated community worker supporting local families, and a proud cat dad to Napoleon the cat!
Right now, working families and seniors are being squeezed. Under the current council, we are facing consecutive tax increases (5.25% in 2027, 5.50% in 2028, 4.50% in 2029, and 4.50% in 2030), while residential taxpayers already carry 55% of the base with almost zero commercial growth to help ease the load.
I want to bring in non-Market affordable housing for our families, workers and seniors.
My Plan for the District of Kent:
Stop the Tax Hikes: Implement an immediate 2-year property tax pause funded through internal savings, keeping services in-house, and expanding our commercial tax base—plus a municipal public waste program to lower household bills.
Build Our Future: Champion a “District 1881”-inspired walkable downtown cultural hub (with a live arts theater and indigenous/Agassiz heritage) to drive tourism and local jobs.
Fierce Advocacy: Lobby relentlessly for a new 4-lane Agassiz-Rosedale Bridge, a 16–20 bed community hospital, non Market affordable housing and free, expanded 7-day BC Transit.
True Partnership: Partner with local Indigenous bands in the spirit of Lets’emó:t (“one heart, one mind”) for collaborative emergency planning and healthcare growth.
Let’s bring transparency, accountability, and real affordability back to our community. Thank you for your support
Please vote for me.
Municipal Elections are October 17.
