Abbotsford (from Abby Cat Daddy the Feline Advocate Society) – Abby Cat Daddy the Feline Advocate Society looks ahead to a busy season of community events and an exciting next step for feline welfare in the Fraser Valley.
With National Adoption Week at PetSmart running October 19 to 25, they are bringing together adoptable cats, kitten yoga and creative activities to help more local cats find loving homes.
National Adoption Week events
Our first Kitten Yoga event takes place Wednesday, October 21, from 6 to 6:45 p.m. at PetSmart Sumas in Abbotsford. Instructor Cassie Paul will lead the session in the dog training ring, with kittens available for pre-adoption joining the fun. We hope this first event will become a recurring way to connect the community with our rescue work.

On Thursday, October 22, Kitten Kraft & Paint takes place at PetSmart Surrey Boardwalk, 15285 101 Avenue. The children’s craft session begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by adult painting at 6:30 p.m. Participants can enjoy creative activities and meet kittens while learning about adoption. Reservations can be made by calling the store at 604.588.2640.
Our weekend adoption events include:
• Saturday, October 24, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at PetSmart Sumas, Surrey Boardwalk and Chilliwack.
• Sunday, October 25, from 1 to 4 p.m. at PetSmart Sumas, Highstreet and Surrey Boardwalk.
Visitors can meet cats and kittens, speak with our team and complete adoption applications. Each adoption helps create space and resources for another local cat in need.
A new Community Cat Clinic in Abbotsford
We have also signed the lease for our Community Cat Clinic at the former Bakerview Animal Hospital space within PetSmart Sumas.
The clinic will expand our ability to provide spay and neuter services and veterinary care for rescue and community cats. It will also support eligible low-income families through services offered on a needs-based assessment. It is being developed for these focused purposes rather than as a regular public general veterinary practice.
Our goal is to begin basic spay and neuter services in late 2026, then build capacity and treatment options into early 2027. Community donations and partnerships are helping us prepare the space with the equipment and supplies our veterinary team needs.
Fundraising to support local cats
Our current 50/50 fundraiser is supporting preparations for the Community Cat Clinic. We are also inviting the community to support our ongoing rescue, TNR and care programs through donations.

Another opportunity is the final MyGivingCircle grants round of 2026, where supporters can cast a free vote to help us work toward grant funding.
