Victoria – As expected, B.C. Premier David Eby called a snap election, one week after the Municipal Elections.
The Province goes back to the polls for a Provincial Election October 24.
The September 26 Abbotsford-Mission By Election is now scrubbed.
Eby blamed US President Trump policies as a major part of the decision. Also, the BC Conservatives for endorsing Trump policy.
This election comes almost less that two years after Eby came to power as Premier.
Some of Eby’s comments: Trump is attacking our jobs, driving up our costs and threatening our ability to make decisions for ourselves, in our own country, for our own people. He wants to make Canada and B.C. an extension of America.
For B.C. and for Canada, this is an existential moment. We have to decide as a province how we respond, and British Columbians deserve a say.
That’s why today I called an election for October 24.
When Trump came after Canada, I didn’t flinch. We pulled American liquor off the shelves and hit back where it hurt.
I’m working with the Prime Minister to hold the line, and we’ve got a plan to stand up to Trump, protect workers and businesses, and build a stronger B.C. that’s less dependent on the U.S.
It’s making a difference. But the job is far from done.
The conservative parties would cozy up to Trump, make cuts, raise costs and invite U.S. corporations into our health care. With Trump at our door, we cannot afford their chaos.
That’s the choice in front of us.

From Elections BC – Writs Issued for British Columbia’s 44th Provincial General Election:
Individuals are eligible to vote if they are:
- a Canadian citizen,
- 18 or older on October 24, 2026, and
- a resident of B.C. since April 23, 2026.
Eligible voters can register or update their voter information online at elections.bc.ca/register or by phone at 1-800-661-8683. Voters can also register in person when they go to vote.
Voting options
- Advance voting will be available Friday, October 16 to Wednesday, October 21, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (local time). Advance voting locations and the dates they are open will be posted online at wheretovote.elections.bc.ca.
- Voters can request a vote-by-mail package online at elections.bc.ca/votebymail, by phone at 1-800-661-8683, or in person at any district electoral office. The completed package must be received by Elections BC before 8 p.m. (Pacific time) on Final Voting Day.
- The last opportunity to vote will be on Final Voting Day, Saturday, October 24. Voting places will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Pacific time). Voters have an assigned voting place on Final Voting Day.
Information about other voting options is available at elections.bc.ca. Whatever voting opportunity they choose, all voters must prove their identity and residential address to receive a ballot. A complete list of acceptable identification is available on the Elections BC website.
Abbotsford Mission By-Election
With the call of a provincial general election, the 2026 Abbotsford-Mission by-election has been cancelled. As required by law, voting in the by-election has now ended.
Ballots already cast in the by-election will not be included in the provincial general election. Abbotsford-Mission voters who have already voted in the by-election will need to vote again in the provincial general election.
Quick facts:
- Eligible individuals who register to vote by October 1 will receive a Where to Vote card in the mail. The card lists advance voting places in the voter’s electoral district and their assigned voting place for Final Voting Day on Saturday, October 24. Voters can also use their Where to Vote card as one piece of voter ID. Voters do not need a Where to Vote card in order to vote.
- Candidate nominations close at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 3. The complete list of candidates will be posted online at elections.bc.ca/candidates as soon as possible after nominations close.
- Preliminary results will be reported as soon as possible after the close of voting at 8 p.m. (Pacific time) on Saturday, October 24.
- Official results will be reported after the completion of final count, scheduled for November 10, 2026.
- While both are taking place in October, the 2026 Provincial General Election and 2026 General Local Elections are separate electoral events. Each election has its own voting dates and locations, voter eligibility requirements, and rules about election advertising.
- In the provincial general election, Elections BC is responsible for voting, counting, candidate nominations, campaign financing and advertising rules.
- In the general local election, Elections BC is responsible for campaign financing and advertising rules. All other aspects of general local elections are administered by each local jurisdiction.
