Fraser Valley – Lakhwinder Jhaj, CentreBC candidate, Abbotsford-Mission – Let’s be clear what the Abbotsford-Mission by-election is about.
| Kerry-Lynne Findlay needs a seat in the Legislature. |
| That is understandable, but the people of Abbotsford-Mission deserve to be more than a political solution to a party problem that Findlay has been desperate to solve for months. |
| The reality is that Abbotsford-Mission was not her first choice. Or her second. Or her third. In fact, multiple BC Conservative MLAs reported they were approached about stepping aside so she could run in a by-election. |
| They all said NO. |
| Until Reann Gasper stepped down on August 22nd, almost three months after Findlay became leader. Findlay says that she never asked Gasper to step down, which further points to the fact that this is not a riding Findlay was particularly interested in representing. |
| Make no mistake: the only reason Findlay is running in Abbotsford-Mission is because she had no other choice. Because our former MLA, Reann Gasper abandoned the seat she was elected to hold in order to create an opening for the new leader of her party. |
| Findlay is not running to be the MLA for Abbotsford-Mission because this is the community she has spent her life helping to build. She is not running because Abbotsford-Mission is her home. |
| She is running because she needs a seat in the Legislature. And if she is elected, her focus will no longer be Abbotsford-Mission. |
| Instead, her time, energy and attention will be consumed by the demands of the Legislature and managing the ongoing chaos within a BC Conservative Party that has already lost nine MLAs and continues to experience inner turmoil. |
| Abbotsford-Mission has real issues and deserves better than political opportunism. The constituents deserve an MLA who is here for the right reasons; a real representative who will advocate for them and work hard to build a better path for their community. |
| They deserve an MLA focused on them. |
| That’s why I am running. I have deep roots in Abbotsford-Mission. I was raised here, and I have spent decades building businesses and serving this riding. I have been committed to supporting youth, seniors, newcomers and culturally diverse communities, while taking leadership roles with community organizations. I have been recognized for this work with the BC Community Achievement Award and other honours for community leadership. |
| I’m not running because I desperately need a seat in the Legislature. I’m running because I want to serve the community I know, understand and have spent years contributing to. I know the people of Abbotsford-Mission. I know the challenges we face. And I know that our community deserves an MLA who will put this riding first. |
