Abbotsford – Drivers are advised to expect major traffic-pattern changes on Highway 11 at Highway 1 in Abbotsford starting as early as Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, as construction progresses on widening Highway 1 through the Fraser Valley.
These traffic-pattern changes are necessary to allow crews to safely undertake construction and demolition activities as part of the Highway 11 Interchange Project. This work is a key component of the Fraser Valley Highway 1 Corridor Improvement Program, which is dedicated to improving safety and reducing congestion.
Starting Thursday, the existing loop ramp from Highway 11 northbound to Highway 1 westbound will be permanently closed. This ramp will be replaced as part of the future interchange improvements.
Drivers will instead make a left turn at a new temporary traffic signal to access to Highway 1 via the existing southbound on-ramp. The climbing lane on Highway 1 westbound at Riverside Road will also be closed.
Since some work is weather-dependent, the exact timing of the new pattern is subject to change. Drivers should plan for additional travel time through the area, especially during peak travel times, as travellers adapt to the new traffic pattern.
During construction, reduced speed limits of 50 km/h on Highway 11 and 80 km/h on Highway 1 will be in place. Drivers are reminded to slow down and use caution, obey signage and traffic-control personnel in the area, and watch for roadside workers.
