Nicole Huitema Read Will Seek Re-election to Chilliwack Council

Chilliwack (Media Release) – It really wasn’t much of a secret as she mentioned at a District 1881 event in the spring, that she would run again.

Nicole Huitema Read is excited to announce that she will once again be seeking election to Chilliwack City Council.

A lifelong citizen of Chilliwack, Huitema Read says she is proud to have the opportunity to serve the community she has called home throughout her life.

“I am proud to call Chilliwack home and I am excited about the opportunity to continue serving this community,” said Huitema Read. “Over the past four years, I have gained valuable experience around the Council table and a deeper understanding of the responsibility that comes with making decisions that affect our community today and for generations to come.”

During her first term on Council, Huitema Read has focused on responsible financial decisionmaking and maintaining the City’s strong financial position. She believes Chilliwack must continue to be thoughtful about how taxpayer dollars are spent, maintaining lean and efficient operations while continuing to invest in the services and infrastructure residents rely on.

Huitema Read says keeping property taxes competitive compared with municipalities of similar size remains an important priority. At the same time, she believes the City must continue to invest in public safety, essential infrastructure and services that contribute to a strong quality of life.

For the past 12 years, Huitema Read has participated in Chilliwack Healthier Community, an experience she says has provided valuable insight into the social challenges facing local residents and the collaborative work being done by organizations throughout the community.

If elected to another term, Huitema Read plans to continue supporting responsible growth and equitable development while protecting the qualities that make Chilliwack a special place to live.

She also remains committed to protecting agricultural land for its best use and ensuring environmental stewardship remains part of the City’s decision-making.

“I am proud of the work we have accomplished and grateful for the opportunity I have had to serve,” said Huitema Read. “There is still important work ahead, and I would be honoured to continue representing the people of Chilliwack on City Council.
