Fraser Valley/Okanagan (From United Way BC) – As the Summerland wildfires continue to impact communities across the Okanagan, British Columbia is under a province-wide state of emergency and more than 20,000 people have been displaced from their homes. United Way BC is appealing for donations to support those affected.
Funds raised through the United Way BC Wildfire Recovery Fund will help local community partners provide immediate assistance to evacuees and support longer-term recovery efforts as families and communities begin to rebuild.
United Way BC works closely with local agencies, community organizations, First Nations, emergency response partners, and government to identify urgent needs and provide support during and after wildfire events.
UWBC intentionally remain flexible so they can respond as community needs change. This may include supporting evacuation centres, providing essential supplies, helping communities welcome evacuees, funding recovery initiatives, and investing in long-term resilience efforts.
UWBC are currently supporting Shxwhá:y Village First Nation as they assist evacuees and provide critical community services. As more evacuation alerts and orders arise, we will connect with reception centres and provide aid as needed.
