Hell’s Gate – A troubling picture went on the Facebook page Boston Bar North Bend BC Rant And Rave via Attila Banhegyi.
The Brunswick Creek fires edge near Hells Gate the (Sunday) evening of July 26. Structure protection were on site. Fire is on the east side of the Fraser as well. It was raining in Yale but didn’t reach Boston bar. We are nearing a fire edge distance where the community is out of range or potential ember showers from southern portion of this complex. I suspect structure protection in Boston bar will be demobed by EOW. North bend structure protection was removed July 21. There’s even running water there. Things feel nice in North bend as if it could be downgraded to an alert any day now. There was a reignition below the landfill 2 days ago and 7 trucks were on it for two days and it’s been mopped up by this evening. Looters are circumventing roadblocks by train jumping. Holdouts are patrolling the area.
The Hell’s Gate Airtram officially opened on July 21, 1971, after construction began in 1970 by the Swiss manufacturer Habegger Engineering Works.
This airtram is Swiss built by Habegger Engineering Works of Thun, Switzerland and one of their mechanics came over to help set up the system. Fiber rope was shot across the canyon with a crossbow from the lower terminal to the upper cliff edge (half way) and then from the cliff to the upper terminal. Once the rope was in place, a small cable was attached and winched to the upper terminal, and then the 44mm wide steel track rope. It took many hours to get this 1000′ track rope in place as it was not allowed to touch any other metal or the ground.
The Hell’s Gate Airtram is now owned by Junping Yang (also listed as Jun Ping Yang), who serves as president and purchased the facility through new ownership in 2014 from its longtime local shareholders. It is operated privately under Hells Gate Airtram Inc. in the Fraser Canyon.
