Abbotsford – Around 12:55PM Wednesday Afternoon April 1, AbbyPD officers responded to a weapons call in the 31900 block of South Fraser Way after reports of a man pepper spraying members of the public randomly.
Multiple officers attended the area and quickly located the suspect, who fled on foot across Highway 1 near the Peardonville overpass. Traffic on Highway 1 was temporarily disrupted as officers pursued the suspect both on foot and in police vehicles.
The suspect, a 36 year old man, was arrested without incident along South Fraser Way near the intersection of Townline Road. He remains in police custody at this time.
Several victims have since come forward, all reporting minor injuries as a result of being pepper sprayed. AbbyPD is asking anyone who witnessed this incident, or anyone who may have been pepper sprayed and has not yet spoken with police, to come forward and speak to police.
Investigators are in the early stages of determining the circumstances that led up to today’s incident.
