AbbyPD Weekend Recap: December 12 to 15 – Flood Related Calls, Fatal Stabbing, Domestic Violence

Abbotsford (Abbotsford Police Department) – Weekend Recap: December 12th to December 15th

Between Friday at 5:00 AM and Monday at 6:00 AM, AbbyPD frontline officers responded to 316 police files.

Friday Night

Teams were active across the city. Eleven additional officers were deployed to assist with flood-related duties. Patrol officers responded to a mental health call involving a man armed with a knife. A less-lethal shotgun was used to safely apprehend the individual, who was transported to hospital after failing to comply with police directions. Throughout the night, five impaired drivers were located and removed from the roads.

Saturday

The day shift was extremely busy, responding to a fatal motor vehicle collision and another serious incident where a van mounted the sidewalk, striking two pedestrians. Six additional officers were brought in to support flood operations. During the evening, officers continued proactive enforcement under Operation Community Shield. Patrol officers also removal of a prohibited driver and an impaired driver from our roads.

Sunday

During the day shift, officers attended a stabbing at a residence. Tragically, the victim succumbed to their injuries, and the case is now being investigated as a homicide. This incident is targeted and isolated to the residence, with no ongoing risk to public safety. Later that evening, officers responded to another collision involving a pedestrian; the suspect vehicle fled the scene. More to come on this. Additionally, officers attended a robbery at a local grocery store and another mental health call involving a youth armed with a knife and a metal rod.

Proactive Traffic enforcement efforts led to:

9 impaired drivers being removed from the roads, and 14 violation tickets being issued. By the end of the weekend, 3 individuals were held in custody.
