Fraser Valley – via City of Abbotsford and Cheam First Nation – High Streamflow Advisory LINK is HERE – Please Be Mindful & Stay Safe
Issued December 8, 2025 | River Forecast Centre
Cheam First Nation would like to advise all members—both on- and off-reserve—of a High Streamflow Advisory in effect for multiple regions, including the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley, where many Cheam families live and travel.
An atmospheric river is impacting the south and central coasts of BC this week. Heavy rain is expected today and again Wednesday, with rainfall warnings in place.
Lower Mainland rainfall: 50–75 mm expected
Central Coast: Up to 120 mm
Rain-on-snow may increase runoff and river swelling
Areas of Concern
The advisory covers:
• Lower Fraser tributaries — including the Chilliwack River and other Fraser Valley rivers
• Metro Vancouver & North Shore Mountains
• South Coast & Central Coast
• Vancouver Island
What This Means
Rivers are rising quickly and may remain high throughout the week. Some areas may reach or exceed typical high-flow levels, and localized flooding is possible—especially along small creeks or unstable banks.
Safety Reminders
Stay clear of fast-running rivers, creeks, and unstable banks
Do not drive through flooded roads, bridges, or crossings
Watch for erosion, debris, or submerged pathways
Keep storm drains clear of leaves to help reduce urban flooding
Be prepared for changing conditions—check updates regularly
The River Forecast Centre will continue monitoring and provide updates as needed.
