Victoria/Chilliwack – Following fellow Chilliwack-Cultus Lake MLA Á’a:líya Warbus comments on the recent leadership change for the BC Conservatives, Chilliwack North MLA Heather Maahs released a statement on December 6:
Who can keep up with BC politics? John Rustad has now stepped down as leader. I’d like to thank him for all he’s done. I’m so appreciative of all the tireless work he did, not to mention crisscrossing this province and raising the banner of the Conservative principles.
The Conservative Caucus has elected Trevor Halford to be our interim leader while the Party prepares and initiates a leadership race. We’re confident that with Trevor’s experience and wisdom, he’ll provide us with the stability we need.
I’m feeling very optimistic and excited to see all the great Conservative minds that will come together, discuss and debate with a vision for the future. However, there is a lot of work to be done. Practically ever sector in BC is in crisis. David Eby has decimated this province in two short years and placed BC in a precarious financial situation.
Speaking of instability, a judge has ruled that the Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous People Act in British Columbia, DRIPA is enforceable which has the potential to make BC an investment wasteland, not to mention call into question property rights for every person in this province. This could also set a dangerous precedent in the rest of the country. Recognizing this, Trevor Halford has called for David Eby to recall government and repeal DRIPA. These are unprecedented times.
Last but not least, I’m going to ask for your help in donating to our party. We broke records for donations on Thursday receiving the most money in one day since the elections. That is incredible and most helpful. We’re going in the right direction now. It’s my least favourite thing to do, but as you know donations are the lifeblood of our work. And if David Eby decides to call an election we have to be ready. Here’s the link:
