AbbyPD Halloween Weekend Wrap – Loads of Fireworks Complaints and.. a Little Bear Spray

Abbotsford (Abbotsford Police Department) – Weekend Recap: October 31st – November 3rd

Between Friday at 5:00 AM and Monday at 6:00 AM, AbbyPD frontline officers responded to 342 police files, staying actively engaged throughout the weekend.

Friday Night

On Friday evening, additional officers were deployed to support proactive patrols and respond to fireworks-related calls in anticipation of Halloween. While no major incidents were reported, officers remained busy throughout the night, seizing fireworks and, in some cases, weapons such as metal batons and bear spray from youth. The Gang Crime Unit conducted curfew checks and performed licence premise inspections at local liquor establishments.

Saturday

The Saturday day shift proceeded routinely with no significant incidents to report. That evening, extra officers were again assigned to manage fireworks calls across the city and to provide coverage at the Abbotsford Canucks game. Proactive policing efforts led to the arrest of two individuals with outstanding warrants and the removal of three impaired drivers from our roads.

Sunday

Sunday’s day shift was uneventful, allowing officers time to address outstanding tasks. During the evening, a proactive vehicle stop resulted in the seizure of drugs from two individuals. Additionally, AbbyPD’s bait bike program proved effective once again—two suspects were arrested after stealing a deployed bait bike. Notably, one of the suspects had searched the bike model online on his phone before the theft, presumably to assess its value before stealing it.

Ongoing Initiatives:

• Operation Community Shield remains active in response to recent extortion-related incidents. Patrol teams conducted a variety of checks and patrols throughout the community to ensure public safety and visibility.

Weekend Call Summary:

11 – Intimate Partner Violence Reports
7 – Assaults

3 – Break & Enters
25 – Thefts
5 – Collisions

Proactive Traffic enforcement efforts led to:
