Harrison Lake – UPDATE from Harrison Hot Springs Fire Department: The HHSFD, in coordination with BC Wildfire Service, is actively monitoring the wildfire currently burning south of Bear Creek. For the safety of the public and emergency personnel, we respectfully request the following:
Boaters: Please avoid the Cascade Bay and northern areas of the lake to ensure crews have the necessary space to operate safely.
Drivers: Please limit or refrain from traveling along the East FSR Road near the affected areas.
Your cooperation is essential to support wildfire suppression efforts and ensure everyone’s safety.
UPDATE from BC Wildfire Service: ” We continue to respond to the Bear Creek Fire (V11110), located south of Bear Creek, and east of Harrison Lake. This fire was reported in the early evening of July 29, and we responded with initial attack crews, helicopters and air tankers.
Campers in the vicinity were asked to leave the area as a precaution. We bucketed the fire into the overnight period using Night Vision Imaging System technology. There was growth on the fire overnight and the size is currently estimated to be 65 hectares and the status is Out of Control.
This morning we have two, 22-person unit crews assigned along with helicopter and air tanker support. Travelers may encounter traffic control along the East Harrison Forest Service Road.
The public is asked to stay out of the Harrison Lake area for their own safety and the safety of responders. When firefighting aircraft are working on an active wildfire and picking up water from nearby lakes, they need plenty of room to maneuver to do their job safely.
We urge the public to use common sense and keep their boats well away from areas where air tankers or helicopters operate. This fire is suspected to be human-caused.
