Chilliwack – There have been some recent major changes with Chilliwack Restorative Justice.
Former Executive Director Steve Roukema parted ways in November.
Now the bike shop , that was at the old and now demolished Cheam View United Church and moved to a Main Street Location next to the RBC – will close by Christmas.
The rent and basic business costs are the reason although there are hopes that they can reboot the bicycle service down the road.
From Their Facebook posting:
After 15 months of heartfelt effort and community involvement, we are sad to announce that our retail bike shop, Restorative Cycle, located at 9282 Main Street, will be closing its doors on December 21, 2024.
This decision was not made lightly. We want to express our deepest gratitude to the staff, volunteers, and supporters who poured their time and energy into making Restorative Cycle a place of connection, learning, and community spirit.
Although the shop is closing, this isn’t goodbye for our bike program! We’re working on plans to continue selling donated bikes to support our restorative justice programs, either at a new location or with a fresh approach.
Restorative Cycle wasn’t just a store – it was a hub for youth mentoring, bike repair training, and after-school programs. While this chapter closes, our mission to foster healing and community empowerment through restorative justice remains stronger than ever.
Thank you for everyone’s continued support and contributions to helping out our organization! We deeply appreciate the dedication and commitment of our volunteers and the support from the community.
Stay tuned for updates on our next steps and how you can continue to support the work we do. Thank you, Chilliwack, for standing by us!
