Abbotsford/Chilliwasck – 1PM Wednesday UPDATE – From BCHP – On August 6, 2024, at approximately 2:40 p.m., BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) and Chilliwack RCMP received multiple 911 calls related to a multiple vehicle fatal collision on Highway 1 eastbound near the Yale Road Exit.

Sadly, a local woman and child were declared deceased at the scene. A second child, from the same vehicle, was transported to hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to survive. There were no other serious injuries reported.

The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) attended the scene and are working closely with BCHP investigators to identify all factors that led to this fatality.  The collision involved six vehicles and ten drivers and passengers.

The investigation is still in the early stages. Initial information suggests that one or more vehicles stopped abruptly due to an obstruction in the roadway. At least one vehicle failed to stop in time and caused a chain reaction of collisions. Impairment is not believed to be a factor.

A GoFundMe has been set up to cover hospital and funeral costs
