UFV Sports Friday – Rough Night for Volleyball Against Pandas

Fraser Valley – WVB: Slow start leads Pandas past Cascades on Friday

The UFV Cascades got off to a slow start as they fell in four sets (15-25, 25-19, 23-25, 24-26) to the University of Alberta Pandas on Friday at the UFV Athletic Centre.

The loss drops the Cascades to 19-4 on the season, while the Pandas improve to 18-5. The two teams will meet once again on Saturday at 5pm for a match that has immense playoff implications, as the Cascades and Pandas each look to lock up a top-4 finish, and a home playoff date.

The Cascades and Pandas meet up once again on Saturday for UFV’s annual senior night. The match is set to start at 5pm, with a pregame ceremony scheduled for 4:45pm to celebrate the Cascades graduating athletes.

MVB: Cascades fall in three to Golden Bears

Jonas Van Huizen led the UFV Cascades with seven kills and eight digs, but the No. 2-ranked Alberta Golden Bears earned a 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-11) win Friday night in Abbotsford, B.C. The result in the Canada West men’s volleyball game moved Alberta’s record to 17 wins and six losses, and UFV’s to 7-16.

The Cascades will wrap up the 2023-24 Canada West regular season with Saturday rematch against Alberta at 6:45 p.m. Prior to the first serve, four graduating players – Ryan Adams, Eduardo Ferreira, Caleb Kastelein and Reece Wilson – will be honoured in a pre-game Senior Night ceremony.
