Chilliwack Fire Worked Suspicious and Stubborn Blaze on Carleton Street – Duplex and Home, Family Pets Were Lost

Chilliwack – Just after midnight on Sunday June 25, Chilliwack Fire was dispatched to a report of a residential structure fire in the 9200 block of Carleton Street. Approximately 25 Firefighters from Halls 1,2,4and 6 responded to the scene and discovered a single-family home heavily involved in fire, with flames spreading to nearby vehicles and up into the roof area of an adjacent residential duplex.

Crews were challenged by a large volume of fire, live electrical lines on the ground and nearby structures and vehicles. One half of the duplex only received light smoke damage, while the other half suffered heavy smoke and water damage, along with fire damage to the roof and attic areas. The single-family home did suffer heavy fire, water and smoke damage.

No one was hurt BUT two cats unfortunately perished in the fire, however crews were able to successfully revive a pet dog after working for several minutes performing CPR and providing oxygen.

Two other pets (one cat and one dog)also survived the fire.

The Chilliwack Emergency Support Services (ESS) team was dispatched to the scene and provided emergency food, clothing and shelter to displaced occupants. This fire is under investigation by Chilliwack Fire Department officials.
