Abbotsford – Ignition Interlock Systems are a tool for police to ensure drivers who have been convicted of impaired driving, to literally blow into this system to start their vehicle. The system registers if the driver is sober or not.
On Wednesday night, AbbyPD Patrol officers stopped an unlicensed driver while conducting proactive patrols to counteract dangerous drivers in our community.
In addition to being unlicensed, the driver was also found to be driving while impaired.
During the stop, the driver admitted to members that they made their child blow into the ignition interlock system installed in the vehicle.
An ignition interlock is a device wired to a vehicle’s ignition to which a driver must provide an alcohol-free breath sample to start the vehicle.
The driver was served a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, the vehicle was impounded, and AbbyPD contacted the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
