Calgary/Abbotford ( Aaron Bailey Simply Flying/CBC/City) – “Off we go into the wild blue yonder”
Canada’s second-largest airline, Westjet (WS), has decided to dissolve the low-cost Swoop (WO) brand, only five years after it was introduced, to compete directly with the new Flair Airlines.
The decision comes after multiple negotiations with its pilots, where amalgamating the two brands under Westjet will streamline operations and expectations for pilots and crew, with aircrew recently agreeing to an offer that will see a 24% pay rise over the next four years. From negotiations, the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) noted that from negotiations on June 9th, 87% of its members voted in favor of the deal.
