Vancouver/BC Place – A 4th quarter offensive explosion and a strong defensive effort secures a spot in the @BCHSFB AAA Championship Game at @BCPlace for the GW Graham Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies beat St Thomas Moore 27-10 in the first semi final game on Saturday November 26.
They will face the winner of the other semi-final – Vancouver College. VC blew out Carson Graham 41-20.
That AAA final is Saturday December 3 at BC Place.

For almost 4 quarters the STM Knights solved the Grizzlies juggernaut of an offense in a defensive battle at BC place in the AAA Provincial Semi-Finals. With the score 13-10 for the Grizzlies inside of 4 minutes to play the typically explosive Grizzlies offense had produced just two field goals and a 2 yard QB sneak TD and less than 300 yards of offense. “STM was well coached and came in with an effective game plan to slow down our rushing attack and put enormous pressure on our QB” noted Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator Luke Acheson. QB Lucas Feaver was hurried and harassed all afternoon resulting in 2 interceptions and 3 sacks, both of which are very uncharacteristic of the Grizzlies offense.
Thankfully the Grizzlies Defense was up for the defensive challenge and held the STM offense to only 3 points all game (the lone score coming on a defensive score with an STM interception for a TD). “Although they moved the ball at times our defense would not allow them to establish any successful drives” stated Defensive Coordinator Ian Parks “the boys executed at a high level and corrected mistakes quickly all-afternoon”. Tyson Orregaard had an interception to help seal the win, and 15 different players had tackles on the night for defence, and Logan Tocher recovered a fumble on one of the kickoffs.
The end of the game heroics to put the game away for the Grizzlies were thanks to receiver Braeden Macdonald with a 38 yard TD reception with less than 4 minutes to play and a 28 yard TD scamper in the last minute of play resulting in the final score of 27-10. Lucas Feaver was 13 of 18 for 201 yards with 1 TD and 2 interceptions while Maleky Colgiu carried the ball 21 times for 61 yards. “In wasn’t a typical game for us” remarked Acheson “but I told the players to be ready for very good and very well coached competition in the playoffs and neither South Delta nor STM have disappointed in that regard”
The defending champion number 2 ranked Grizzlies now face off for the AAA Provincial Championship for the second year in a row. This year they will be playing the undefeated and number 1 ranked Vancouver College Fighting Irish Saturday December 3 at 7pm at BC Place.
