Abbotsford (with files from Ian Parksi) – Scoring at will. That was the long Friday night for the Abbotsford High School SV Panthers and GW Graham came into Abby and walked out with a 70-12 win without literally breaking a sweat.
The Grizz made a big comeback after last week’s heartbreaking 28-23 loss to Vancouver College.

In a bounce back game for the GW Grizzlies, after their first loss of the season last week, they had a balanced attack, with scores on offence, defence, and specials, the Grizzlies had 6 different players score touchdowns.
On the Grizzlies first drive, QB Lucas Feaver (4/6, 143 yards, 2 TD’s thrown) threw a 40 yard TD strike to Tyson Orregaard on the second play. On the next defensive series, after a 3 and out by the Abby Panthers, Tyson Orregaard returned a punt 62 yards for a TD, to put the Grizzlies up 2 TD’s only minutes into the game. Running Back Grady Andrea put another TD on the board with a 42 yard run, the Grizzlies D got a safety (Yapo Conteh), followed by a 41 yard run by Yapo Conteh on the next offensive series. After a fast paced first quarter, it was 29-0 for the Grizzlies.
Defence started to take over the game, as Defensive End Vincent Branauer stripped the ball from the Panther ball carrier and took it to the house for a 92 yard TD!!! The Grizzlies defence, with over 40 players played, registered 3 fumble recoveries (Lucas Pollard, Riley Ashley & Vincent Branauer), 5 sacks (3 for Branauer, 1 for Owen Lal, & 1 for a safety by Conteh). Conteh had 7 tackles, Branauer had 6, Evan Butler had 5, Josh Seo and Sage Brunner both had 4.
Before the second half was over, RB Maleky Colgiu punched 2 more TD’s in (2 yards & 40 yards), to put the Grizzlies up 50-0. “This was an important game for our team to do the little things right, and play a sharp, detail oriented game. I’m happy with the focus that the team kept, and glad we gave lots of players some looks at different positions tonight” – Head Coach Luke Acheson.
In the shortened second half, receiver Christian Beck had 2 TD’s (54 yards & 25 yards ), and Colgiu had a 23 yard TD reception as well. QB Aiden Hewitt was 3/3, for 61 yards, and 2 TD’s thrown, Brayden Macdonald added a reception for 26 yards, and Aiden Zamani had his first reception of the year for 8 yards as well.
The GW Graham Grizzlies (1-1), host the Kelowna Owls (1-1) at Exhibition Stadium next Friday at 4:30pm in the BC Highschool Game of the Week.
