Chilliwack – Congrats goes to the Chilliwack Chiefs U-16 club in the BC Spring Hockey League Championship.
The Chiefs beat West Kelowna 9-4 at the Coliseum on June 26.
From Brad Rihela, Associate Coach/Assistant General Manager:
“We hosted the U16 BCSHL Playoffs here at the Chilliwack Coliseum this weekend. Essentially this league is made up of BCHL prospects, and there are two divisions, U16 and U18. Each team puts their teams together and they play in a league which culminates in a playoff weekend at the end of the season. (Next season we will be running showcase weekends) we are just looking to continue making the league better and more professional with each season. We have some adjustments to make but coming out of the pandemic it was a good return to action for our league which was on hiatus for a couple of seasons.
Our U16 team went undefeated this season, ending with a championship win over West Kelowna. Our team has Levi Benson, Justus Chyld, and Jovan Dhillon from Chilliwack on it.
The U16 Division had two teams from West Kelowna, one team from Alberni, as well as Victoria, ourselves, and Surrey (Surrey had to fold prior to playoffs as they had not enough players available for playoffs). We will be looking to expand the league further into next season.”
