Langley ( Ethan Allin – BCIT Radio Arts and Journalism) – The Vancouver Giants avoid going down 3-0 in their second-round matchup against the Kamloops Blazers in the 2022 WHL Playoffs. The
Giants, who entered the playoffs as the eighth seed, now only trail 2-1 in their best-of-seven series with Kamloops after a 3-2 win.
Vancouver Giants Forward Alex Cotton (6) scored the game-winning goal assisted by Fabian Lysell and Ty Thorpe with less than four minutes to
play in regulation. The power-play proved to be the deciding factor in game three at the LEC as Giants Goaltender Jesper Vikman stopped
34-of-36 shots to pick up the win.
Justin Lies (1) opened the scoring at 11:55 of the first period assisted by Jaden Lipinski and Matthew Edwards.
It wasn’t until the second period when Kamloops Forward Fraser Minten (4) tied the game 1-1 on the power-play assisted by Mats Lindgren and
Matthew Seminoff.
Vancouver Giants Forward Ty Thorpe (2) scored on the power-play to take a 2-1 lead at 15:55 of the second period. The goal was assisted
by Alex Cotton and Fabian Lysell.
Kamloops Blazers Forward Drew Englot (3) scored a power-play goal assisted by Mats Lindgren and Fraser Minten at 8:38 of the third
period making it 2-2.
The eventual game-winner was scored on the power-play by Alex Cotton (6) at 16:36 of the third period assisted by Fabian Lysell and Ty
Thorpe.
Between the goaltending and power-play, the Vancouver Giants were able to sneak out a win at home against the Kamloops Blazers. Game 4 is set
for May, 12th at 7 PM at the Langley Events Centre.
