Volunteers Frustrated with People Leaving Garbage at Gill Bar and Other Sites Along Rivers (INTERVIEW)

Fraser Valley – The Chilliwack Vedder River Salmon Society, Fraser Valley Illegal Dumping Alliance, Fraser Valley Salmon Society, the spring and fall clean ups that are widely posted and promoted.

It seems that their message is lost.

The garbage continues to be left behind by campers, anglers and partyers and volunteers like Ross Aikenhead are frustrated.

With the freshet building, and vehicles plowing through the rivers to bars, and disturbing fish habitat, it seems that conservationists are losing a battle.

There is plenty of bureaucracy over who’s to bless and who is to blame (Thank You Kris Kristoffersson). The City does not have jurisdiction over these areas such as Gill. The Province and the Federal Government (DFO) are only doing so much, in the eyes of the volunteers who do their clean ups.

Aikenhead tells FVN that a summit between volunteers and the two local MLA’s is coming on June 10 (Kelli Paddon and potentially Dan Coulter).
