Mission Public Works Week Open House – Saturday May 14

Mission -The City of Mission is inviting the community to a fun, interactive outdoor open house at the Public Works Yard on May 14 to learn about the programs, equipment, and people that shape how we construct, maintain, and service our growing city.Held in honour of National Public Works Week, the family-friendly event will be an opportunity to get up close to the plows, sweepers, trucks, and heavy-duty equipment that Mission’s Public Works crews use regularly to maintain our city’s streets, utility systems, and public assets. Operators will be there to provide demonstrations and answer questions.

“The people, expertise and equipment in our Public Works are all top-notch,” said Mayor Paul Horn. “The work of the department is often invisible to the public, but it plays a huge role in our quality of life. I hope people will come down and see how their tax dollars are being deployed and to say thank you to the team working on their behalf.”

The event will also include displays from Environmental Services, Forestry, Mission RCMP, Mission Fire Rescue Service, CUPE Local 1267, and others. A bouncy castle will be set up, and free tickets will be given out and redeemed for snacks from a local food truck. There will also be an opportunity to learn about Public Works through the ages with archival material available on display.

“This is our first Public Works Week Open House here at the City of Mission in many years,” said Tracy Kyle, Director of Engineering and Public Works. “I’m excited about the event because it gives the community a chance to come and experience their local Public Works Yard.
