Victoria/Chilliwack – The two Chilliwack MLAs Dan Coulter and Kelli Paddon were joined by the Hon. David Eby, British Columbia’s Attorney General and Minister of Housing on Friday April 1, to meet with local leaders and organizations to discuss solutions for housing.
“It was great having the Minister on the ground to see the hard work going on and hear the concerns of the people who live and work here in Chilliwack,” said Coulter, MLA for Chilliwack. “I’m grateful that both our provincial and local governments are passionate about providing supportive housing. We know there is more work to do and that in order to combat homelessness and get people the supports they need, we need to work together.”
Minister Eby, along with MLAs Coulter and Paddon, met with Chilliwack Mayor Ken Popove and councillors from the City of Chilliwack. Discussion topics included the need for day shelters as well as more supportive housing.
The group also toured a local BC Housing supportive housing site on Old Yale Road, meeting with members of RainCity Housing, who run the space. The site has 82 units of supportive housing and is staffed 24/7.
“I want to thank all of the people and organizations in Chilliwack-Kent and Chilliwack working in supportive housing for the difference they are making everyday. Sheltering and supporting B.C.’s homeless population requires support from all levels of government, partners and community members,” said Paddon, MLA for Chilliwack-Kent. “The province is committed to addressing housing needs and solutions in Chilliwack and to build upon the more than 400 housing units already completed or underway in our community.”
