Victoria – Women’s Soccer -Trinity Western defeated UFV 4-1 in Sunday’s Keg Spring Cup match for bronze. Shaila Weflen stood out for the Spartans, potting two of four goals in the win.
After falling to UBC on Saturday, the Spartans were able to get the result they hoped for in their first weekend on the pitch since the U SPORTS Championships.
Shaila Weflen headlined TWU’s day on the field by potting two goals. Weflen would be joined by Kathryn Harvey (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) and Olivia Kranjcec (Okotoks, Alta.) in the scoring department.
AS IT HAPPENED
A strong first half for the Spartans led to goals from Kathryn Harvey, Shaila Weflen, and Olivia Kranjcec through 45 minutes played.
The Cascades would revitalize themselves in the beginning of the second half, earning numerous chances while dictating certain aspects of play. With UFV applying pressure, Grace van den Brink (Chilliwack, B.C.) swung a ball in to Weflen, who would pot her second marker of the game to cap the game at a 4-1 scoreline.
