BC Hydro Lines Down – Frozen Tree Branches On Wires – Transformers Catching Fire, Thousands in the Dark – Worst Ice Storm Since ’95

Fraser Valley – As of 6 AM Friday morning, some 16 thousand BC Hydro Customers in the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley and Sunshine Coast had a cold night. The freezing rain brought branches down on wires. Approximately 7000 customers in the Valley were in the dark (and cold).

Roger Pannett with Environment Canada noted that this is the worst ice storm to hit our region since December 1995 with 2.2 cm of ice accretion.

BC Hydro Link is here.

The path of the blackout is Majuba Hill in Yarrow through Cultus Lake and Slessse Park.

Adam Teskey with Teskey Aluminum Fabrication posted to Facebook around 3:15AM – The massive power lines that run beside the highway through the valley just below unity school east of Chilliwack just had two massive bright blue flashes … some people might be losing power soon.

Over the last two hours a major transformer blew behind our house on the eastern hillside of Chilliwack above Unity school. The fire was unreachable by fire crews and one of the power lines was down . My son Warren got the closeup shot before I told him to back away and come home. Thought you might need one more story for the day I too if the millions of others.
