OPINION – Lytton’s MP Vis Not Satisfied With TSB/RCMP Findings on Wildfire That Destroyed Village

Lytton – On Thursday, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) released its report on the fire that destroyed Lytton, British Columbia.

Brad Vis, Member of Parliament for Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon, issued the following statement:

“While the completion of the TSB report is welcome, my constituents are still seeking answers to the cause of the fire and want to return home. In June, the residents of Lytton were issued an evacuation order with just 15 minutes warning before their town was engulfed by a devastating fire. Over three months later, many residents remain displaced throughout the province.

“I continue to speak with residents and work with all levels of government to ensure immediate needs are met and access to property is provided as soon as possible. Unfortunately, because Justin Trudeau has not yet resumed parliament after the election, funding for rebuilding efforts is stalled and we have been left in the dark with few federal updates.

“Residents remain unable to access their properties. They want answers for what happened and ultimately, they want to return home. These families should not have to wait another day.”

The BC Wildfire Service continues to investigate the cause of the fire and the RCMP are conducting an enquiry for possible criminal investigations.
