SEPTEMBER 23 ORIGINAL STORY – Fraser Health sent home a notice to parents of Chilliwack’s Promontory Heights Elementary School that there has been a COVID-19 outbreak.
FVN and Star FM obtained a copy of the letter. FVN and chillTV has learned that a Grade 5 class is affected as well as some teachers, but the exact numbers of each are not know nor has that been released.
The School is now closed until October 3. Fraser Health has asked students and staff to self isolate.
Fraser Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Promontory Heights Elementary School in Chilliwack after 20 COVID-19-positive cases were identified among staff and students.
In a school environment, if a student or teacher receives a confirmed positive COVID-19 test result, Fraser Health Public Health follows a rigorous protocol:
· Contact tracing is initiated to determine how the individual was infected and who they were in close contact with in order to advise for self-monitoring or isolation.
· Public Health staff works closely with the school and school district throughout the case and contact management process to maintain close communication with the school community.
Chilliwack School Superintendent Rohan Arul-pragasam calls this a “break from in-person classes:
We have experienced a spike in cases of COVID-19 within the Promontory Heights Elementary School community in the past 10 days. School and district staff have been in regular communication with Fraser Health.
Out of caution, our Fraser Health Officer and their team have determined that we break from in-person learning in an effort to put a stop to the current spread of the virus. Therefore, Promontory Heights Elementary School will be moving to remote learning effective immediately and through to the end of next week. We expect a return to in-person instruction on Monday, October 4th.
